Fitting curtain rods
Sorted in 5 steps!
Choosing curtain rods is one step, but after that they still need to be installed. That is easier than you think. With the following 5 steps, you'll have it sorted in no time.
Step-by-step plan
- Step 1: gather your tools
- Step 2: measure and mark
- Step 3: attach brackets
- Step 4: fit the curtain rod
- Step 5: finishing
Step 1: Gather your tools
For an easy approach you need the right tools:
- tape measure
- Pencil
- Spirit level
- Drill with the right bits
- Plugs and screws (depending on your wall type)
- A screwdriver or Allen key
- Ladder or step stool
Step 2: Measure and mark
First the position:
Every situation is different. See what suits you best around the window.
Determine the height:
For a luxurious look, mount the curtain rod approximately 15 cm above the window frame. In a high room, you can place the pole even higher to create the illusion of height.
Mark the fixing points:
3. Measure from the top of the window frame and mark the spots for the brackets. Make sure they are equidistant from the window and use a spirit level to prevent crooked lines.
Check the symmetry:
4. Place the brackets at the same distance from the sides of the window.
Step 3: Fit brackets
- Drilling holes: Use the correct drill bit for your wall type (for example, a masonry bit for brick walls).
- Fit wall plugs: For a plasterboard wall, use special wall plugs to attach the brackets securely.
- Screw the brackets tight: Ensure they are secure, as they have to support the weight of the curtains and the rail.
Step 4: Fit the curtain rod
Put the curtains on the rail: Hang the curtains from rings, loops or hooks, depending on the type of curtain.
Secure the rail in the brackets: Some rails have a screw mechanism to hold them in place.

Step 5: Finishing
Check that the curtains can move smoothly. Finish with end caps for a stylish look.

Tips for a perfect result!
Extra help: Two pairs of hands make the work easier, especially with long curtain rods.
Account for walls: For plasterboard or hollow walls, sturdy wall plugs and long screws are a must.
No bending needed, but it does go around the corner: place 2 curtain rings on the wall bracket. The curtain will then go around the corner, thereby sealing the gap with the windowsill and/or wall.
With these steps, you'll have a professionally fitted curtain rod in no time. With the right approach, you'll complete your interior! Good luck!
