For six large windows of our historic house, we were looking for brass curtain rods to fit inside the window reveals and two of over 4 metres for drapes. After a long search we came across Chamberline, what a relief! We needed the rods quickly and despite the holiday period I was able to collect them very fast. Andrea was very friendly and helpful. Also gave good explanations about the lengths and how to shorten them if necessary (needed when working with half centimetres). The rods are light yet sturdy and hold the heavy drapes nicely in the right place. We haven't done all the windows yet so we will definitely be back. Nothing negative to remark upon!

Made-to-measure double curtain rods for sheer and blackout curtains
A double curtain rod is ideal if you want to hang two layers of curtains. Think of sheer curtains for during the day and thicker blackout or drapes for the evening. The sheers filter the daylight and provide privacy, while the curtains add extra warmth, block out light and create ambience.
By choosing made-to-measure double curtain rods, you avoid having to work with standard lengths that never quite look right. The pole fits the width of the window, the desired overhang and the way you want your curtains to hang much better. This creates a calmer and more polished overall look.
Why choose a double curtain rod?
With a double curtain rod, you can get more out of your window furnishings. You decide for yourself how much light you let in and how much privacy you want. During the day, you can simply draw the net curtains, whilst the room remains light and airy. In the evening, you can draw the main curtains for more atmosphere, warmth and privacy.
A double curtain rod is particularly practical in:
- Living rooms with large windows
- Bedrooms where you want to combine privacy with blackout features
- Rooms with French doors or sliding doors
- Interiors where curtains are a genuine part of the ambience
- Situations where you want to hang net curtains and drapes neatly
A double curtain also looks striking. The layers of fabric add depth to the window and lend the interior a softer, more opulent feel.
The advantage of bespoke solutions
With double curtains, it’s particularly important to get the measurements right. The curtain rod must be wide enough to allow both layers of the curtains to be drawn back smoothly. If the rod is too short, the curtains will hang partially in front of the window. This makes the room look less spacious and blocks out daylight unnecessarily.
With a made-to-measure double curtain rod, you can decide for yourself how far the rail extends beyond the window on either side. This ensures the curtains drape more attractively alongside the window and makes the window area appear larger. This makes a real difference, particularly with wide windows, tall windows or sliding doors.
The balance between the curtain rod, the curtain fabric and the interior is also improved when you opt for bespoke solutions. A curtain rod that is too short or too light can look out of balance, whilst a well-chosen curtain rod creates a calm and luxurious finish.
Which colour suits your interior?
Made-to-measure double curtain rods are available in a range of finishes. Which colour suits best depends on the atmosphere you wish to create.
Black double curtain rod
A black double curtain rod provides a strong and modern accent. This colour pairs nicely with black window frames, steel doors, industrial details and calm neutral interiors. Black is present, but remains timeless.
Brass or gold double curtain rod
Brass adds warmth and elegance. This finish combines beautifully with beige, sand, cream, wood and rich fabrics. Ideal for a hotel-chic, classic or warm, modern interior.
Stainless steel, chrome or matt nickel
Stainless steel, chrome and matt nickel create a lighter and more subtle look. These colours are ideal for modern interiors where the curtain rod may be visible but does not need to be too prominent.
Please note the distance between the two rods
With double curtain rods, the distance between the two rails is important. The net curtains and main curtains must be able to move smoothly past one another. If the rails are too close together, the fabrics may rub against each other or not drape as nicely.
The type of curtain fabric also plays a part. Thin net curtains take up less space than heavy drapes with full pleats. You should therefore choose suitable double curtain rods so that both layers of curtains are shown to their best advantage.
Wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted?
In many cases, double curtain rods are fixed to the wall. This works well when there is sufficient space above the window. Do you have tall windows, not much wall space above the window frame, or do you want the curtains to hang down from the ceiling? If so, ceiling mounting could be a good solution.
Ceiling-mounted curtains create a spacious and luxurious effect. The curtains appear to start higher up, making the room look taller. This works particularly well with long, floor-length curtains.
Create a cohesive look with your window decorations
A double curtain rod is not only practical, but also plays a key role in defining the look of your interior. By carefully choosing the rail, rings, brackets and finials, you can create a cohesive look for your window decorations.
For example, match the colour of the curtain rod to other details in the room, such as lighting, door handles, furniture legs or window frames. This way, the double curtain rod won’t feel like a disjointed element, but rather a deliberate choice within the interior design.
With made-to-measure double curtain rods, you can combine comfort, privacy and ambience in a stylish way. Perfect for anyone who wants to hang sheer curtains and main curtains neatly, securely and attractively.
